Synopsis
First loves, second chances…
When Cali Morgan kicks off her perfect post-college summer in Lake Tahoe, she has everything she ever wanted: acceptance into a top law program, a gorgeous boyfriend, and an incredible summer planned with her best friend.
Confident about her place in the world, Cali makes it her mission to be her friend’s wingwoman and help her meet guys. What Cali doesn’t count on is running into Jaeger Lang, one of her older brother’s high school friends, or the sparks that fly when she’s around him.
Jaeger has changed, and it’s not just the added height and muscle. There’s something about him that’s deep and a little scarred. In spite of the changes, Jaeger becomes a top pick for her friend—if Cali can keep her hands off him.
But when Cali’s boyfriend dumps her and her carefully laid plans begin to unravel, she finds herself questioning what it is she truly desires. In the midst of doubts about her future, one thing is very clear: she wants Jaeger for her own. The question is, has her friend already fallen for him?
One night to relax at a bar with Max, a coworker and his friends, Cali thinks she knows Jaeger from somewhere. The attraction is almost instant and the curiosity is too much, he looks at her in a way that makes her feel butterflies in her belly. Apparently they really know each other and he is a friend from high school of her older brother, but he is very different from what she remembers, with the exception that he still is one of the most quiet of the group. Cali knows she can't feel an attraction so strong like that, she has a boyfriend, and it's almost as if she is cheating on him. So she thinks it is best to join Gen with Jaeger, he is a sweet boy, with his head in place and just what her friend needs right now. He has another idea ...
Jaeger had a promising future, girlfriend, about to become Olympic athlete, but a leg injury destroy all of that dream, so he got a new profession where he carves wood.
Deep Blue became one of my favorite books for several reasons, one is Cali. Cali is not the typical damsel in distress, with her father leaving the family when she was still young, her mother always taught Cali and her brother to do everything by themselves. It's a character that remain strong from the beginning to the end of the book, has some insecurities when her boyfriend ends their relationship and when she is helpless in regard to the future. I can say that Cali is a damsel in distress of modern time, that need support but at the same time she is capable of doing things with her own hands.
I loved the story because it really seemed real, not everything is just raibows and unicorns and the author tells it very well, each character has their problems and the book shows how they can affect people and the relationships of those around us. It was an addictive read (as you can check the picture below), it was difficult to stop and when I was waiting for something to happen, something completely different happened. I couldn't get off the computer until the end, at times I felt like I needed to hit someone (if you read, you will notice) for their actions, because it exists in real life, there are always those creatures(by creatures I mean people) that do the wrong thing and then when someone turn their back on them (or just punched them) they still have to take revenge even when they are the ones to blame.
The relationship between Cali and Jaeger starts very slowly, it wasn't rushed, it gives time to the reader to really know the characters, that was what made me fall in love with them.
I just have to thank Lex Martin, author of Dearest Clementine a wonderful book (review to come), by tell us about the author Jules Barnard and Deep Blue, and the author of this book for giving me the opportunity to read it in exchange of an honest review.
This story left me with the need to read about the other characters, the next book is called Blue Crush and will be the story of Gen, and the third is True Blue which features the story of Tyler, Cali's older brother, I CAN NOT wait to get my hands on him, I mean the book of course.
